Background
Hoots, Baker & Wiley, P.C. was originally established in 1956 and has been serving the Salem area since that date. The firm is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants.
We maintain quality standards for all levels of engagements and emphasize the development of close working relationships with our clients. As a result, a majority of current clients have been with the firm for years, and several since 1956.
The current staff of fourteen is comprised of seven CPAs, four associate accountants, and three support personnel. The three principal CPAs have been with the firm over 67 years, and one of the associate accountants for more than 25 years.
Continuing education is an integral part of the firm's emphasis on quality. All CPAs on staff earn a greater number of educational credits than required by the State Board of Accountancy each year.

How Do We Rate?
Hoots, Baker & Wiley, P.C. received an “unqualified opinion” in a recent independent peer review for the year ended March 31, 2006.
Such a review is required every three years for an accounting firm to qualify to provide accounting and auditing services to the public. A peer review involves having an independent Certified Public Accountant review the system of quality control for the accounting and auditing practice of the firm. A system of quality control encompasses the firm’s organizational structure and the policies adopted and procedures established to provide the firm with reasonable assurance of conforming with professional standards. The elements of quality control are described in the Statements on Quality Control Standards issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
An “unqualified opinion” is the highest level of peer review assurance. This is the fourth consecutive unqualified opinion that the firm has received.
